It’s Time to Grab Your Walking Shoes

Many of the sermon messages Pastor Kelly and I shared with you this summer began with Jesus’ feeding of the five thousand. We wrestled with… deep questions like “What are you hungry for?” and also Jesus’ call to us that “you give them something to eat.” The good news is that we here at BVUMC do offer sustenance to those who are hungry, both literally and figuratively.

One way we do that is through our Bread & Jam meal program. You are all (I hope!) aware of this program but you may not be aware of the fact we receive much of our funding and food supplies from an organization called Feeding America. This fall they will be sponsoring just one of several opportunities for us to support organizations, both locally and world-wide, in feeding those in need. I’d love for us to put a team of walkers in the street for each of these events. Keep your eyes on The Cube for more information but here’s what’s coming up:

Saturday, September 15th – 6th Annual Food Walk benefiting our local Bay View Community Center Food Pantry – begins at 10:00 a.m. at the BVCC (1320 E. Oklahoma Ave.), 3K/1.8 mile run or 4K/2.6 mile walk.

Saturday, September 15th – Spaghetti Supper to support the Unity ELCA Free Clinic; 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Unity, 1025 E. Oklahoma Ave. $10 adults, $7 children 5-12, carry-outs available.

Saturday, September 22nd – Feeding America Miles for Meals Hunger Hike; 10:00 a.m. beginning at the Veteran’s Park pavilion, 1010 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive. 5K run or 2 mile walk. Register at http://firstgiving.com/feedingamericawi/milwaukee

Sunday, October 14th – Greater Milwaukee Crop Walk; begins and ends at Veteran’s Park. More details next month.                                                        I plan to do the BVCC walk and the Crop Walk. Who will walk with me?

Blessings,                                                                                                      Pastor Andy
