What is it you don’t want to miss? Why it’s the big September 18th Interfaith Picnic! As I write this, our dedicated team of picnic planners just finished meeting for the second time and things are really starting to hum. We have some wonderful folks from the Islamic Society, Unity Lutheran and Christ UCC putting their heads together to make this a very special time.
We’ll have promotional materials ready in a couple of weeks but please…make this one a priority. With all the hate being fostered in our world it is so important that we stand together as people of faith, as sisters and brothers and show our city that there is inherent goodness in ALL people. That’s our goal for this event but on top of that…we just want to have a great time!
Here are some of the details; the picnic will be in Humboldt Park, picnic area #4. That’s the one by the playground and pavilion. It will officially start at noon but some of us will be setting up and grilling beginning at 10am. Our friends from the Islamic Society will be providing two huge grills plus a couple of hundred hamburgers and hot dogs! Guys, we’ll need help cooking up all that goodness so there is an opportunity for you!
We’ll begin with some icebreaker games that will help us all to greet one another and begin what we hope will be a great afternoon of conversation with new friends. We plan to eat at 1pm. Everyone is invited to bring a salad or dessert dish to go along with those burgers and dogs. We’ll have activities for the children including an art station…how cool is that? There will also be volleyball and other games for the adults and we’ll wrap everything up by 5pm.
It’s been almost ten years since of local faith communities came together for something like this. If you were at any of those in the past you know how wonderful they were. How can we make this one just as wonderful? It’s easy! All you have to do is show up! Watch for more details coming soon and if you’d like to get on board with the planning team we’ll be meeting again here at church on Tuesday, August 9th at 7pm. Let’s cap off our summer by making this a picnic to remember!
